The representation of the samurai mask
A samurai mask represents a demon, to be more precise a yokai. Demons are evil beings that haunt people and want to harm them.
This kind of mask was used at the time to scare away enemies (it still works), in the Japanese culture the masks representing a demon allow to scare away demons and bad entities, that’s why this mask is called “samurai”, because it allows to fight even before fighting.
A samurai, what is it?
We talked to you about the samurai mask, but what is a samurai in concrete terms?
A samurai was a warrior during the feudal period of Japan (era that begins in 1183 and ends in 1858), but they were created only from the Edo period (1603-1868).
These warriors had a code of honor also known as bushido. They were warriors with a lot of respect and loyalty who swore loyalty to their leader, the “Shogun”.
We all know the expression “hara-kiri” which means the suicide of the samurai. The fighter would commit hara-kiri when he felt that the order of his master was immoral or to be forgiven for a fault.
